Tracking Small-Cap AI: TheMarketAI AI SC 15 Index

On June 20, we covered Dan Ives AI focused ETF: IVES AI Revolution ETF which reached $100M in AUM a week from launch. Well "hold my Chatbot", we can take a whack at it too. However, at TheMarketAI.com, we’re not just watching the the trillion-dollar giants driving the AI headlines. We’re also looking at how small-cap companies are innovating with AI, often under the radar of mainstream investors.

To test the idea, we created the TheMarketAI SC 15 Index, a market-cap weighted benchmark made up of 15 AI-focused stocks pulled from the Russell 2000’s Information Technology sector. We started by screening the entire Russell 2000 tech list and selected companies where AI is a core part of their product, platform, or strategic growth story. We used ChatGPT to help create an AI rating for each company in order add it to our list.

This index is designed to track how smaller AI players perform compared to broader indices like the S&P 500, Nasdaq, or AI-themed ETFs. It’s our way of shining a light on emerging AI innovators — not just the megacaps dominating the headlines.

It’s early days, but we suspect this index might behave a bit like a venture portfolio: one or two breakout winners could drive outsized returns, even if the rest remain average. Given the asymmetric upside in AI, there’s a real possibility this small-cap basket could outperform traditional indices or ETFs.

We’ll be reviewing the index monthly to see how the story unfolds.

This aggregate market cap of $74.6 billion becomes our “100-point” benchmark for the index.

So if, for example, the combined market cap of these 15 stocks rises to $76.7 billion in a future month (a ~10% increase), the index would read 110, reflecting that growth. ⚠️ Disclaimer
